Hooray, we did it (and did it well I may add). What an amazing experience, made even better by the company of my teammates, Kelli and Cindy. 1300 walkers made a pilgrimage through Charlotte to raise big bucks for the fight against breast cancer. Kelli's walk was in honor or her mom and in memory of her grandma and great-aunts. Cindy's walk was to honor several aunts touched by the disease. Mine was an effort to do something good for other women and in hope of a cure for disease that affects almost family in some way. There were so many stories to be heard. We met a 70 year old lady who was completing her 98th breast cancer walk and who just completed her goal of raising one million dollars. We witnessed a young lady currently fighting breast cancer being pushed in a wheelchair by her teammates. We saw husbands and wives, mothers and daughters supporting each other. We were introduced to women who have beat cancer multiple times. We loved the crew members who were full of energy cheering us on and handing out more snacks than we could eat in a lifetime. Saw some beautiful parts of Charlotte, tip-toed through the rain on Saturday morning, wrapped in mylar blankets in 40 degree weather Sunday morning, hugged my family at the end of 26.2 miles, amazed by Kelli's ability to make conversation at 4:30 in the morning, laughed at the many tee shirts, costumes and team uniforms sported by walkers and spectators (my favorite: "Bibbity, Bobbity, Boob. Big or small we support them all"), pitied the walkers with blistered feet, thankful we splurged and stayed at the Westin instead of camping at the wellness village, and most of all grateful for this life altering experience. Once again, I thank-you all for your support. I'm looking forward to next time and I'm pretty sure Kelli and Cindy are too.
